COASTAL BEACH HOUSE

COASTAL BEACH HOUSE

a charming two bedroom condo

This cute 2 bedroom ocean front beach house was purchased by a young family to enjoy their full summers on the beach. It was important for our clients to leave all the wall colors as is for a quick move in and use our help on sourcing and buying all new furniture and decor to bring in airy, coastal vibes throughout the house. We executed this by adding lots of blues and whites along with some chinoiserie elements for that tried and true but sophisticated summery theme.

We chose a comfortable queen size pull out sofa bed to maximize their limited space and allow for other adult family members to have a place to sleep when visiting. With 3 small children in mind, it was also important for us to pick one with removable slipcovers and cushions to allow for easy cleaning and maintenance. We used our decor hack to hide away bulky cable modems and routers in a chic rattan woven basket tucked away in the side table.
This condo was built in the 80s and so it came with an obsolete phone intercom on the master bedroom wall that was never removed. We used an oversized scenic and ethereal horse framed art to lean against that wall to hide the eyesore.

Being that the condo only has two bedrooms, the clear choice for us in the kids’ room was to bring in two twin sized bunk beds to offer more sleeping arrangements. We chose a bunk style that had under bed storage since there was no more space for a dresser in this room.

KIDS BASEMENT PLAYROOM

KIDS BASEMENT PLAYROOM

inviting play space for all ages

We transformed this dreary basement space into a highly functional play space with tons of storage for all ages. We kept the space as an open room without enclosing it in order to enlarge and brighten up the feel of a small playroom. We incorporated a little art space to display artworks above a chalkboard wall. This client did not want a rainbow bright playroom on top of all the bright colored toys so we balanced it with soft, neutral colors for the decor. We opted for a bright but light wall color, Sherwin William’s Snow Drop which is a very light pale blue. Keeping in mind the basement location with limited windows, we wanted the space to be bright and airy. A plush, high pile geometric shag rug to ground the room and add comfort and warmth under those tiny feet! We added simple, muted solid colored throw pillows with varying textures above the storage bench to compliment the area rug.
Our client’s budget did not allow for a custom built in shelving for toy storage. We came up with a cost effective storage system to hide away all the toys and keep everything neat and organized.

No space was wasted in designing the kids basement playroom. We utilized the space under the stairs to add an intimate reading nook for the kids to enjoy. We kept it simple with white shiplap for the accent wall and added a small bookshelf for the kids to sort their books in. The oversized bench cushion & cover was customized and made to fit this space by Kohler Designs.
